What is the difference between CDU and CCS?

Carbon dioxide utilisation can perhaps best be seen as complementary to CCS. While CCS aims to reduce CO2 emissions by capturing it and re-injecting it into geological formations, CDU aims using CO2 emissions by exploiting the resource itself and creating new markets around it. The opportunities and objectives of CDU therefore are more present in the areas of competitiveness and innovation in industry (creating valuable end-products).
